Alison Gee

Alison joined Launch.ed in April 2013 and has the role of providing business creation support and advice to students and recent alumni through one-on-one business support, workshops and clinics.

Alison’s early career was in marketing and market research with General Motors and Lucas. A brief interlude of world travel and crocodile counting was followed by a move into the equally exciting and varied world of business start-up and enterprise training. For the last 23 years Alison has been involved with business formation advice, training and micro finance. Latterly this has involved working with the Prince’s Scottish Youth Business Trust during which time she assisted in over 500 new starts spanning a broad base of industry sectors.

Alison graduated with a BA(Hons) in Business Studies (a long time ago) and has more recently been awarded Chartered Institute of Management Accountants diploma.


Ann Sachs

Ann joined LAUNCH.ed in September 2012 as our student intern. Ann project manages the Business Ideas Competition, the University of Edinburgh’s largest business plan competition. She also works on outreach and student engagement.

Ann’s background is architecture, and she is currently pursuing her PhD in that subject. Ann’s interest in entrepreneurship arises from running her own design consultancy business.


Grant Wheeler

Grant manages Edinburgh Research and Innovation’s Company Formation and Incubation team – a grouping that comprises the company formation support activities for both staff and students, and the University’s technology company incubation facilities. As well as a general management role, Grant works closely with a number of companies and projects, particularly those located at ETTC, ETTC BioSpace and ETTC Campus.

Since 1995, Grant has been involved in company formation and incubation activities. In 2000 he joined the University as part of its Scottish Institute for Enterprise team. Prior to that, Grant worked for SMEs in the North Sea oil industry and in the financial sector. Grant is a director of the Scottish Microelectronics Centre incubator and research facility on the King’s Buildings campus – a joint venture between the University and Scottish Enterprise. He has a degree in Business and Economics – from a long time ago!

Sarah currently heads up marketing and projects for company formation. Her role is to build and deliver a cohesive approach to internal and external communications within the company formation team at Edinburgh Research and Innovation. You’ll see her around the University promoting enterprise. She’s an enthusiastic cheerleader for Entrepreneurs. Before The University of Edinburgh Sarah spent 5 years managing the Glasgow Region of PSYBT helping young people start-up and continue in business. Rebecca manages the delivery of the LAUNCH.ed programme for students. She manages day-to-day client management and one-on-one business support and clinics.

Rebecca started working for the University of Edinburgh in 2005, working initially for the Edinburgh Pre-Incubator Scheme (EPIS). Prior to this she developed and managed a service offering initial market assessments for small businesses at the University of the West of England, Bristol.

Rebecca also has seven years’ commercial experience in direct marketing and brand management. She worked as a Senior Brand Manager at Gerber Foods Soft Drinks in Somerset, managing soft drinks brands. She graduated from the University of Birmingham in 1996 with a degree in Law and Business Studies, and was recently awarded a Masters degree in Marketing, focusing on Market Research for high-tech start-ups. She is Chartered Marketer and member of the CIM, and has a Chartered Institute of Marketing Diploma.
